...da wir hier grad alle so schön beim Thema sind; folgenden Artikel finde ich persönlich sehr sehr schön:
Philadelphia's Most Wanted
From our own personal pulpit, soapbox and lector, PhiladelphiaFlyers.com just wanted to make sure that they know the deal. Let’s get it straight, it’s playoff time, right? So, here it goes: Darcy Tucker - Philadelphia doesn’t like you. And Tie Domi - this is beyond dislike. It’s hate.
Forget being polite and ignore politically correctness, there are no manners here. This is Flyers-Maple Leafs. We are just trying to prepare you for what’s coming. It is going to be ugly, it is going to be brutal and with Toronto, you know that it is going to get dirty.
So, before we go forward to Game One of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals on Wednesday night at the First Union Center, let us just review some of the quick hits from the past. Not surprisingly, they involve two of Philadelphia’s "Most Wanted" - Tucker and Domi.
Tucker was last seen in the NHL Playoffs attempting to decapitate the knees of New York Islanders center Michael Peca. He came pretty close too, closing in on Peca, bending at the knees and delivering a low hit to the Islanders’ legs. Peca went end-over-end and fell on the ice. Of course, there was no penalty called on Tucker. Peca wasn’t so lucky, out the rest of the 2002 Playoffs and the start of the 2002-03 regular season with torn ligaments in his left knee.
Tucker’s antics have drawn ire from all of Long Island as well as a Web site titled, “DarcyTuckerWantedDead”. When the Toronto forward returned to face the Islanders in New York earlier this season, his true colors shined bright, spending most of the game on the bench and skating for just half his average ice time, running from the consequences of his actions.
The forward was seen in Philadelphia twice this past season. In his November appearance, Tucker was found over-exaggerating a hit as he lay at center ice. Moments after failing to persuade an official to call a penalty, Tucker jumped up from his apparent coma, skated back to the bench and took his next shift. Doctors and spectators everywhere are still marveling at the small medical miracle.
Tucker’s second appearance in Philadelphia, this time in December, was even more productive. He managed to get the crap beat out of him by Jeremy Roenick in the first period before completing his scoring column with yet another penalty, this time an obstruction minor, in the second period.
But enough about Darcy Tucker. There are bigger and better fish to fry - Tie Domi, one of the most hated men inside this city’s boundaries. At least, Warren Sapp is a high-level professional sports athlete. Domi has taken the definition of “goon” to a whole other level.
Let us start this recap with a page out of his Philly past. In March of 2001, Domi went beyond the call of enforcer and allegedly thugged it up with a First Union Center fan while waiting out two of his 3,000+ career penalty minutes. After squirting fans with water, Domi was finally charged by one of our own faithful who was clearly fed up with his antics. Domi responded with blows and the league responded with a $1,000 fine.
Fast forward to last week when that spectator filed suit in a Philadelphia court, claiming that he was “violently and brutally assaulted and battered” by Domi. Of course, the standup Domi had nice remarks for your Orange and Black.
“It might be Philly trying to stir up something two years later because we’re playing against them,” Domi said. “It’s two years later, but who knows? I wouldn’t put it past Philly.”
Oh no? It is a safe bet that the Flyers don’t put Game Four of the 2001 Eastern Conference Semifinals past Domi, either. In the waning seconds of an eventual 3-1 Toronto win, Domi innocently chased down New Jersey’s Scott Niedermayer with a pummeling elbow, leaving the defenseman unconscious for over three minutes before he was forced to leave the ice on a stretcher.
The league saw it clear as day as well, suspending Domi for the remainder of the playoffs and, with Toronto’s eventual ouster by New Jersey, the first eight games of the 2001-02 season as well.
So, here we go. It is time to tape the pads together, pull on the gloves, strap on the helmet and lace those skates, the playoffs are upon us. In that corner, the down and dirty Toronto Maple Leafs and in the this corner, your Philadelphia Flyers. It’s time to go!
