The annual Entry Draft will take place in Toronto on June 22 and 23. It will mark the lowest (depending on the point of view) first round selection ever possessed by San Jose, as they will not choose until 26th overall.
San Jose has three players that could become unrestricted free agents on July 1 in Teemu Selanne, Gary Suter and Stephane Matteau.
"With Teemu, it's safe to say that we've had preliminary discussions," said Lombardi.
Obviously the Sharks are looking to bring back the goal-scoring winger who led the team with 29 tallies last year.
"We're putting together a manuscript to win and he's an important part of that," said Lombardi. "We like our ability to win. We know we're not going to have a $55 or $60 million dollar payroll, but we feel confident in what we can do. We're in a unique position in that we can compete with the big four now, and down the road."
Besides San Jose expressing a desire to re-sign Selanne, the Sharks feel the Finnish Flash has a genuine interest in returning to Silicon Valley, maybe even before July 1.
"It's possible," said Lombardi. "We have a good relationship with our players and they know the direction, understand the game plan and know that we have a chance to win. He has been in a situation where there was no chance to win. The beauty is that everyone feels that we can win now and that is the priority.

In Antwort auf:boah nhl-tribute sollte sich mal neue schreiber suchen, an nummer eins kommt dieses jahr bouwmeester, das steht auch schon seit monaten fest. nyström wird es wohl nichtmal unter die 10 besten schaffen, steen unicht unter top 20 und stastny geht in runde 2 raus.

Wieso ? Ist doch alles so eingetroffen, wie er gesagt hat. Bouwmeester ist zwar erst an 3 raus, aber das nur wegen komplizierter Pick-Trades. Florida hat seinen ersten Pick an Columbus abgetreten, weil die versichert haben, dass sie Nash nehmen. Dafür haben die Panthers das Recht, nächstes Jahr auch die First-Round-Picks zu tauschen. Ausserdem haben die Panthers weitere Rechte an Atlanta abgetreten, damit die mit dem zweiten Pick nicht Bouwmeester nehmen. Also kann man schon sagen, dass der an eins weg ist.
Desweiteren haben wir Nystrom an 10, also fast nicht unter den ersten 10
Steen ist Nummer 24, also klar nicht unter den ersten 20.
Tja, und Stastny ist auch nicht in der ersten Runde gezogen worden.

CHICAGO -- The head man of the Chicago Blackhawks says star forward Tony Amonte will not be back with the team next season.
"For all intents and purposes he's gone," Blackhawks owner Bill Wirtz told the Chicago Tribune on Thursday. "We've been planning on going without him. I don't know if we'll add one player or several to replace him. We will have a better team next year than we had this year -- I know that for sure."
Wirtz also added that he thought the Dallas Stars will sign the right wing.
"We hear Dallas is looking at Tony and also Bill Guerin (the Boston right wing who also will become an unrestricted free agent July 1)," Wirtz told the newspaper. "I think the deal has been done already, but it's tampering if anything is done before July 1 so nobody is saying anything. We hear eight or nine players already have agreed to sign and he's one of them."
Amonte becomes an unrestricted free agent July 1, and Blackhawks president Bill Wirtz says his salary demands are too high.
Wirtz says the only proposal he has received from Amonte's agent asked for a deal that could pay Amonte up to $9.3 million per year. Wirtz says his offer was in the $5.5-$6 million range.
Wirtz told the Tribune on Thursday that he doesn't know yet whether the team will replace Amonte with another big name player or several players.
Amonte scored more than 30 goals in six of his seven seasons with Chicago.
