4-3 Sieg der Gamblers, kein Punkt von Marian (Spiel vom Mittwoch)

Junior hockey: Gamblers escape with needed victory

By Aaron Wallender
Press-Gazette correspondent

ASHWAUBENON — In a game indicative of their roller-coaster season, the Green Bay Gamblers built a three-goal lead and then came bare inches away from seeing it vanish.

Fortunately for the Gamblers, this roller-coaster game finished on an up note when Green Bay held on for a 4-3 win over Waterloo in front of 2,988 fans at Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena on Wednesday night.

With the Gamblers clinging to a one-goal lead and approximately 45 seconds remaining in the game, the Black Hawks fired a shot that rang off the right post of the Green Bay net. But Green Bay managed to win the next two draws in their zone and tie up the puck long enough to escape with the win.

After dropping three road games in a row last weekend, the Gamblers breathed a sigh of relief with these two points.

“It was a huge win,” said Gamblers left wing Tim Stapleton, who finished with a goal and two assists. “We’ve got to win as many games as we can heading into the playoffs, and after a road trip like that, it’s great to have a win right away.”

The Gamblers (26-19-5) appeared in control with a 4-1 lead and less than 5 minutes remaining in the game, but the Black Hawks battled back, thanks in large part to Green Bay.

Green Bay committed two penalties within 20 seconds of each other to give Waterloo a two-man advantage, and the Black Hawks (18-30-2) capitalized as right wing Joel Hanson scored at the 15:16 mark to make the score 4-2.

Hanson then scored again at the 18:04 mark to bring Waterloo within one goal.

After trailing 1-0 heading into the first intermission, the Gamblers flew out of the gates in the second period by scoring three goals in the first 5 minutes.

Stapleton scored 34 seconds into the period to tie the game at 1. Right wing Matt Johnson then scored his team-leading 24th goal of the season at the 3:10 mark to give the Gamblers the lead. Center Chris Michael then ended the scoring frenzy and gave the Gamblers a 3-1 lead with a rebound goal at the 5-minute mark.

“The biggest thing we said is we’ve got the game plan on the board,” Gamblers coach Mark Osiecki said. “Stick with that, play hard and have pride.”

Although his name won’t show up in the stat sheet, Osiecki credited much of the turnaround to left wing Troy Lother.

“Really the whole game, Troy Lother was the best guy on the ice,” Osiecki said. “(He) blocked shots, finished checks, got to the net and gave the bench a lift. Other guys started to follow suit at the end. Look at the desperation at the end. If we play like that and guys have that hunger, our team has to do that to have success.”

Michael, who finished with two goals and an assist, tipped in a goal with 2 seconds remaining in the second period to give the Gamblers their 4-1 lead on what proved to be the game winner. For the game, the line of Michael, Stapleton and right wing Joe Crabb totaled seven points.

“I’ve been playing with (Michael) for the last four years, so we just know where each other goes,” Stapleton said.

“And we’ve got Joe Crabb also to add in there, and he’s unbelievable. So, it’s fun.”

The Gamblers’ win was their seventh straight at home, and the loss ended Waterloo’s three-game win streak.

1-5 Niederlage in Chicago, kein Scorerpunkt von Marian (Spiel vom Freitag)

Junior hockey: Gamblers’ offense stumbles on road

Press-Gazette

BENSENVILLE, Ill. — The Green Bay Gamblers managed to avoid their seventh shutout of the season, but couldn’t avoid their fifth straight road loss.

The Chicago Steel scored two goals in 17 seconds late in the first period and beat the Gamblers 5-1 in a United States Hockey League game on Friday.

“Here’s our season in a nutshell: Our forwards don’t show up on the road,” Gamblers coach Mark Osiecki said. “They play when it’s convenient. That’s very tough to say, but it’s honest. They just don’t show up on the road.”

Chicago climbed to within five points of the Gamblers for third place in the USHL’s East Division.

A.J. Degenhardt scored the only goal of the night for Green Bay (26-20-5). But his 17th goal of the season, on the power play, came with just 2 minutes, 33 seconds left in the game, and after the Steel (22-20-8) had claimed a 5-0 lead.

Chicago’s Ales Parez scored with 2:01 left in the first period for a 1-0 lead, and the Steel got a 2-0 lead just 17 seconds later on a Travis Morin redirection.

Tom Gilbert, Danny Richmond and Derek Anderson added goals for the Steel in the third period, Gilbert’s coming just 52 seconds into the period.

Green Bay’s Eric Pfligler made 24 saves.

Spiel vom Samstag, 5-3 Sieg für die Gamblers!!!

Junior hockey: Gamblers’ Burish gets a hat trick on road

Press-Gazette

URBANDALE, Iowa — The Green Bay Gamblers snapped a five-game road skid in the unlikeliest of places on Saturday night.

Adam Burish scored a hat trick to lead the Gamblers to a 5-3 victory over the Des Moines Buccaneers at the Metro Ice Sports Arena, a building in which Green Bay hadn’t won since March 11, 2000.

The Gamblers also moved to within four points of Des Moines, which is in second place ahead of Green Bay in the East Divison.

Green Bay jumped on the Bucs early when Tim Stapleton took a pass from Joey Crabb in the slot and beat Buccaneers goaltender Chris Gartman 26 seconds into the game.

Then, late in the period, Alex Matieroukine elbowed Matt Greene, drawing a 5-minute major and then Gartman was called for delay of game. Burish scored his first goal of the night on a tip-in off of a Stapleton shot on the 5-on-3 power play to make it 2-0 at 15:29 of the first period.

The Gamblers outshot Des Moines 19-4 in the period.

Matt Johnson scored his team-leading 25th goal of the season to put the Gamblers up 3-0 before the Bucs got on the board when Jeff Genovy scored at 10:21 of the second period.

Burish’s second goal on a backdoor feed from Stapleton on the power play put Green Bay up 4-1, but the Bucs rallied with two quick goals before a late power play set up Burish’s final goal at 16:49 to seal the victory.

Eric Pfligler finished with 19 saves in goal for the Gamblers (27-20-5).

The Gamblers return to Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena to face the Buccaneers (29-17-5) again today at 2:05 p.m.

Marian's Stats nach dem Spiel vom Samstag

19 Spiele 1 Tor 4 Vorlagen 6 Strafminuten

Was meint ihr?

still believe, to see the cup sometimes.
Thanks Charlie Simmer for the memories.
Same to you Jiri, you are the best.

In der CHL (OHL, WHL und QMJHL) will man ihn nicht schätz ich mal. Er ist einfach nicht stark genug.
