DENVER - The Colorado Avalanche announced this evening that the club has acquired forward Mike Keane from the St. Louis Blues. In return, the Avalanche gave up the services of forward Shjon Podein. This will mark Keane's second tour of duty with the Avalanche.
"We all know the leadership and experience qualities Mike Keane can bring to our hockey club," said Colorado Avalanche President and General Manager Pierre Lacroix. "We are excited to have Mike back with us and our entire personnel is convinced he will be a quality addition to our lineup.
"Shjon has been a wonderful person for our team and our community - he is a first-class individual. We wish him well."
In 56 games played this season, Keane has recorded four goals and six assists with 22 penalty minutes. His career totals include 153 goals and 283 assists in 1,010 career NHL games.
"I'm thrilled and excited to be back in an Avalanche uniform where I enjoyed some of the most exciting seasons of my career," said Keane. "I had a no-trade clause in my contract, but decided to waive it in order to make this happen."
The six-foot, 185-pound native of Winnipeg, Manitoba was originally signed as a free agent by the Montreal Canadiens in September of 1985, he was acquired by the Avalanche on December 6, 1995. After signing with the New York Rangers in 1997, he was later traded to the Dallas Stars in March of 1998. He signed as a free agent with the St. Louis Blues on July 10, 2001.
Keane is expected to be in an Avalanche uniform on Wednesday.

Podein, der 1988 von den Edmonton Oilers gedraftet wurde, verbuchte in dieser Saison bisher sechs Tore und sechs Assists und war seit dem 12. November 1998 bei Colorado angestellt. In seiner Karriere war der sympathische 33-jährige Stürmer außerdem schon für die Philadelphia Flyers aktiv.
