****************************** Scott Stevens - You better Don´t Touch Him

John Slaney Defense Born Feb 7 1972 -- St. John's, NF Height 6.00 -- Weight 190 -- Shoots L Selected by Washington Capitals round 1 #9 overall 1990 NHL Entry Draft
Defenseman & Goaltender Both Sign Multi-Year Contracts
The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have re-signed 6’0”, 190-pound defenseman John Slaney and 6’1”, 190-pound goaltender Neil Little to new multiple-year contracts, according to club Assistant General Manager Paul Holmgren. Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed.
“They are both key, veteran players that we had targeted (to re-sign) from the end of the season,” said Holmgren in making the announcement. “Neil was an unrestricted free agent and John had a lot of interest from teams in Europe. We did give John the opportunity to look around at other teams in the League to see if there was a real interest in giving him a chance to play specifically in the NHL. He decided to come back here. He likes it here. He likes what is going on here and he likes what, he thinks, is going to take place in the future here.”
Slaney, 30, was scoreless in one regular season game with the Flyers in 2001-02. He registered 20 goals and 39 assists for 59 points and 26 penalty minutes in 64 games for the Phantoms this past season. Slaney tied for the team lead in points (59) and in plus/minus (+12), led the team in game-winning goals (6) and in assists (39) and tied for second on the team in goals (20). A native of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Slaney was fourth among AHL defensemen in points (59), second in goals (20) and fifth in assists (39). He was named the winner of the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL’s outstanding defenseman for the 2001-02 season, as voted by players and members of the media in each of the AHL’s 27 cities, and was named to the AHL First All-Star Team. This is the second consecutive year that Slaney won the Eddie Shore Award and was named to the AHL First All-Star Team. He was also selected as the Barry Ashbee Award winner as the Phantoms’ best defenseman for 2001-02.
Slaney was acquired by the Flyers from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for left wing Kevin Stevens on January 14, 2001. He has appeared in 264 NHL regular season games for the Washington Capitals, Colorado Avalanche, Los Angeles Kings, Phoenix Coyotes, Nashville Predators, Pittsburgh and the Flyers over his 11-year professional career (1991-92 through 2001-02), registering 22 goals and 67 assists for 89 points and 99 penalty minutes. Slaney was originally drafted by Washington in the first round (ninth overall) of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft.
Little, 30, posted a 13-15-7 record, 2.02 goals-against average and a 92.6% save percentage in 35 regular season games for the Phantoms this past season. He also appeared in one game for the Flyers, recording the 4-1 loss at Carolina on March 28, in his NHL debut. Little was second in the AHL for the 2001-02 regular season in goals-against average (2.02).
In nine professional seasons (1993-94 through 2001-02), Little, a native of Medicine Hat, Alberta, has a career record of 174-136-42 and a 3.00 GAA in 384 games. He set an AHL record for most wins in a playoff season with 15 as the Phantoms captured the 1998 Calder Cup Championship. Little holds the Phantoms’ team records for most games played by a goaltender (249) and most wins (123). He was originally drafted from RPI by the Flyers in the 11th round (226th overall) of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft.
