Philadelphia Flyers forward Jeremy Roenick has been suspended for two games for his hit on Mike Modano on Tuesday night, the NHL announced Wednesday.
Roenick will miss games against Atlanta on Wednesday night and against Ottawa on Saturday and forfeit $83,333.34 in salary.
Early in the first period, Modano skated toward the sideboards to retrieve the puck when Roenick hit him, sending Modano headfirst into the boards and leaving him prone on the ice. Roenick was assessed a major penalty on the play.
Although the Stars said later Modano did not suffer a concussion, the center complained of headaches and did not return to the game.
Roenick said the hit on Modano bothered him the rest of the game.
"I would never try to hurt somebody," said Roenick, who gave Modano a concussion with a hit three years ago. "He's a friend of mine. I apologized to him 100 times."
