Denver running back Terrell Davis will retire, the Associated Press
reported. Davis' agent told the AP, "Terrell is at peace with himself. He knows
that he did everything that he possibly could to play again, but his knee just
would not cooperate," Schwartz said. "There were no guarantees that his knee
would get better with treatment, and he wanted to be able to go out on his own
terms." The 29-year-old Davis finished his career with 7,607 yards on 1,655
carries and 60 touchdowns. He holds or shares 56 teams records (21 in the
postseason), including most rushing yards, total yards from scrimmage, and
rushing touchdowns. Davis is also one of just four backs to rush for 2000+ yards
in one season, when he ran for 2008 yards in 1998. "It's the hardest decision I
had to make, but obviously the decision was made for me. My body made it,'' he
told the Rocky Mountain News. Davis will suit up one final time on Tuesday and
say a farewell to the Mile ! High faithful.

The Broncos' pre-game player introductions opened with a vaunted rookie, Ashley Lelie, hearing the roar of the fans for the first time. But it was how they closed that not only provided the most stirring memory of the night, but perhaps of any Broncos preseason game in recent memory.
It was when Terrell Davis came onto the field, introduced following a starting lineup that included the two 1,000-yard rushers that took his place in 1999 and 2000, that fans rose as one to thank a man who showed more about his character and determination in his attempts to come back than he ever could have in a long run of healthy seasons.
Cameras surrounded the helmetless Davis as he walked onto INVESCO Field at Mile High. But soon, they were overtaken by his teammates, who slapped his shoulder pads and embraced him as the crowd roared for him one more time.
Davis then turned and offered a Mile High Salute to the fans.
"It's tough. I have mixed feelings," Davis said. "Obviously, I feel like I can still play, but I can't. The crowd's been great, Denver's been great, and I want ... to say 'Thank you for all the support.'"
The warm reception from his teammates, many of whom were not on the team during its Super Bowl runs of 1997 and 1998, also touched Davis' heart and reminded him of another aspect of the game he'll sorely miss.
"I had a great deal of respect for all the players and we've bonded," Davis said. "I'm going to miss the fellas, I'm going to miss the fans, I'm going to miss dressing out, I'm going to miss everything about it.
As he departed for the sidelines, accompanied by a plethora of pigskin paparazzi, the stirring music that accompanied Roy Hobbs' light-smashing home run in The Natural filled the air. Appropriate, since, like Hobbs, Davis displayed spectacular brilliance, but had injuries torpedo his career before its time.
But before he went, he was a winner one more time. Following the grandiose introduction, he walked to midfield for the coin toss as one of the Broncos' captains.
The toss came up in the Broncos' favor. Any other result would have been inconsistent with the kind of success No. 30 knew in a brilliant seven-year career.

Viel Neues gibt's net. Es weiss ja im Moment keiner, wie stark die jeweiligen Mannschaften so sind.
Sieht so aus, als ob jeder nur darauf wartet, dass es endlich losgeht (geht mir jedenfalls so).
Ich denke mal, nach spätestens dem zweiten Spieltag geht's zu wie auf'm Basar.
