The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have agreed to terms with 6’2”, 225-pound left wing Donald Brashear on a new four-year contract , and 6’1’’, 235-pound left wing Todd Fedoruk on a new two-year contract, according to club President and General Manager Bob Clarke. Per club policy, financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.
“Both are physical players that are big assets to our club,” said Clarke, in making the announcement. “Brashear is one of the toughest and most intimidating players in the League, with the ability to play regularly. With the toughness that’s already in our division, we have to keep our good players and keep our tough players.”
“Obviously, [by resigning], I’m getting a good chance to win a Stanley Cup,” said Brashear. “I’m pretty excited, especially with [Ken Hitchcock] coming in.”
In nine NHL seasons (1993-94 through 2001-02), Brashear has posted 57 goals and 75 assists for 132 points and 1,626 penalty minutes in 549 career regular season games. In 50 regular season games for the Flyers last year, Brashear tallied four goals and 15 assists for 19 points and 109 penalty minutes. He was scoreless in five playoff games while totaling 19 penalty minutes. Brashear was acquired by the Flyers on Dec. 17, 2001, along with a sixth-round pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for left wing Jan Hlavac and Tampa Bay’s third-round pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
In two NHL seasons, (2000-01 and 2001-02), Fedoruk has scored eight goals and nine assists for 17 points and 250 penalty minutes in 108 career regular season games, all with the Flyers. Last season, Fedoruk tallied three goals and four assists for seven points and 141 penalty minutes in 55 regular season games with the Flyers, and was scoreless in three playoff games. He was originally drafted by the Flyers in the seventh round (164th overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
Damit sind die Fight-Zeiten für die nächsten Jahre gesichert !!
