The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have signed unrestricted Group VI free agent 6’2”, 190-pound center Ian MacNeil to a contract, according to club Assistant General Manager Paul Holmgren. Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed.
MacNeil, 25, recorded 14 goals and 20 assists for 34 points and 128 penalty minutes in 79 regular season games for the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League this past season. During five professional seasons in the Carolina Hurricanes/Hartford Whalers organization (1997-98 and 1998-99 with New Haven and 1999-2000 through 2001-02 with Cincinnati), MacNeil has registered 68 goals and 85 assists for 153 points and 496 penalty minutes in 357 regular season games. A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, MacNeil was originally drafted by Hartford in the fourth round (85th overall) of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. (Quelle: off. Page der Flyers).

DETROIT -- Defenseman Chris Chelios has re-signed with the Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings.
Chelios' agent, Pat Brisson, confirmed Chelios and the team had reached a deal Tuesday, but wouldn't comment on specifics.
The Detroit News reported that the two-year deal is worth approximately $13 million. Chelios made $5.5 million in 2001-02.
The deal came less than two days after Chelios became an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his 20-year NHL career.
"Chris and his family are very happy to stay in Detroit,'' Brisson said.
Repeated messages seeking comment from Red Wings officials weren't returned.
The 40-year-old Chelios was the runner-up to teammate Nicklas Lidstrom for the Norris Trophy, which goes to the NHL's top defenseman. He also led the league in regular-season and playoff plus-minus.
A day after signing free agent goaltender Curtis Joseph to replace the retired Dominik Hasek, the Red Wings apparently made Chelios a priority.
"Signing Chris Chelios is a high priority," general manager Ken Holland told the Detroit News. Rumors had the New York Rangers seeking Chelios' services, but they signed free agent defenseman Darius Kasparaitis on Tuesday.
In 1,181 regular-season games with Detroit, Chicago and Montreal, Chelios has 168 goals, 667 assists and 2,430 penalty minutes. He has another 30 goals and 106 assists in 210 playoff games.
Chelios is one of only 15 NHL players to appear in 200 postseason games and the only one born in the United States.
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Free agent Rob Ray, the Buffalo Sabres' longest-serving player and career penalty-minutes leader, re-signed with the team Wednesday, agreeing to a one-year deal.
``Rob has been an integral part of this organization both on and off the ice for the past 13 seasons,'' Sabres general manager Darcy Regier said. ``We are happy to see him return for another year and look forward to him contributing again this season.''
Ray, 34, had said he wanted to return for a 14th season in Buffalo but was prepared for free agency after having little contact with the Sabres as the deadline for NHL teams to re-sign their eligible free agents approached. The deadline passed at midnight Sunday.
It is the third time the Sabres have re-signed Ray as an unrestricted free agent. His one-year contract paid him $500,000 last season.
Ray's 3,097 career penalty minutes lead the Sabres and are an NHL record for one player with one team.
A fan favorite for his charitable work in the community, Ray, in 1999, became the first Sabres player to be awarded the NHL's King Clancy Memorial Trophy for leadership qualities and humanitarian contributions.
Despite seeing limited ice time, Ray appeared in 71 games last season, finishing with two goals, five points and 200 penalty minutes.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Free agent defensemen Luke Richardson and Scott Lachance signed multiyear contracts with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
The 33-year-old Richardson has played 15 years in the NHL, the last five seasons with Philadelphia.
A 10-year veteran, Lachance, 29, had a plus-15 rating for the Vancouver Canucks in 81 games last year.
Their durability will be a welcome addition to the Blue Jackets, whose only real physical presence on defense last year was 6-foot-3, 206-pound rookie Rostislav Klesla, the fourth overall pick in the 2000 draft.
The Blue Jackets allowed the most goals in the Western Conference (255) last season and finished with the fewest points (57).
"Our goal on July 1 was to add size, mobility, skill and leadership on our blue line,'' team president and general manager Doug MacLean said. "We have accomplished that.''
MONTREAL -- The Montreal Canadiens added size and grit up front Thursday, signing free agent winger Randy McKay to a two-year contract.
McKay scored seven goals with 11 assists and 72 penalty minutes in 69 games with the New Jersey Devils and Dallas Stars last season. He has scored 20 goals twice in NHL career, most recently in 2000-01.
"Randy McKay is the kind of player we were looking for,'' Montreal general manager Andre Savard said. "He is known for his hard work, his grit and his desire to win.''
McKay spent 11 seasons with the Devils, winning the Stanley Cup in 1994-95 and in 1999-2000.
He has played in 857 NHL games with Detroit, New Jersey and Dallas, scoring 156 goals and 188 assists with 1,659 penalty minutes.
The Canadiens also announced the signings of minor league defenseman Matt O'dette and forward Benoit Gratton.

Zwei Stunden bevor Mike Richter zum Unrestricted Free Agent wurde, gaben die New York Rangers den Torhüter an die Edmonton Oilers ab. Nun, fünf Tage später, einigte sich der 35-jährige Schlussmann mit New Yorks Manager Glen Sather auf einen neuen, mit US$ 8 Millionen versüßten 2-Jahres Vertrag. Die Edmonton Oilers erhalten zum Ausgleich einen hö,heren Draft Pick von den Rangers, als sie vergangene Woche abgegeben haben.
"Ich war immer zufrieden mit der Performance die Mike bei uns zeigte. Dass wir in den letzten sechs Jahren jeweils die Playoffs verpassten lag nicht an ihm," begründete Sather seine Entscheidung auch in den kommenden Jahren auf Richter zu setzen.
Es ist jedoch naheliegend, dass es den Rangers, nachdem Curtis Joseph in Detroit und Ed Belfour in Toronto, beide ebenfalls Unrestricted Free Agents, unterschrieben hatten, an Alternativen fehlte.
Richter, in 1985 als Nummer 28 von den Rangers gedraftet, spielt seit 1989 bei den 'Blueshirts'. 653 Mal hütete er das Tor der Rangers. Sein größter Erfolg war der Titelgewinn in 1994.
