POKEY REDDICK IS A KOMET AGAIN
Championship goaltender will play his 19th pro year in Fort Wayne
Fort Wayne, IN --- Veteran Pokey Reddick has agreed to terms and will return to Fort Wayne for his 6th season as a Komet
goaltender, the UHL club announced this morning. The 2002-03 season will be Reddick's 19th as a pro.
Reddick has had a storied 18-year career which began in Fort Wayne in 1984-85 with 10 regular season games and 4 playoff appearances. Reddick was signed as a free agent by Winnipeg of the NHL in September, 1985 and appeared in 32 games with the Komets during the 1985-86 season, backstopping Fort Wayne to an IHL regular season championship. He also led all IHL goalies that year with a 3.05 average, winning the league's James Norris Memorial Trophy (league leading goaltender).
"I feel great about coming back to Fort Wayne," Reddick said. "It's a great chance for my kids to see me play. My daughter was born in Fort Wayne and the Frankes have always treated me like family."
Reddick made his NHL debut in 1986-87 with Winnipeg appearing in 48 games with the Jets. Reddick played 2 more seasons in the Winnipeg organization before being traded to Edmonton in September, 1989. Reddick was a member of the 1990 Stanley Cup Champion Oilers appearing in 11 regular season games and 1 playoff game.
During the 1991-92 season Reddick returned to the Komets for 14 regular season games and 9 post-season appearances. In 1992-93 Reddick went 23-0-1 in his last 24 games of the season with Fort Wayne, including a 12-game sweep of the Turner Cup playoffs taking the Komets to their 4th league championship.
Reddick signed with Florida of the NHL in 1993 and had stints with Cincinnati, Las Vegas, Grand Rapids, San Antonio and Kansas City of the IHL over the next 5 seasons.
In 1998-99 Reddick returned to Fort Wayne for the Komet's last IHL season and was awarded the Komet's Most Valuable Player of that year going 12-5-5 in 33 games (3.27 ave).
"This is probably the most exciting news we have had in our short UHL history," stated Komet general manager David Franke. "Pokey has competed at a very high level the last 3 years against former NHL, IHL and AHL caliber players. We expect Pokey to be a key ingredient in our quest for elite status in the United Hockey League."
Reddick is coming off a 3-year stint as a member of the Frankfurt Lions of a Germany Elite league in Europe where he averaged a 2.87 goals against average in 151 regular season games.
Reddick becomes the first goalie and 6th player to be added to the Komet roster for 2002-03. Winger Kelly Miller and defensemen Kevin Schmidt, Kevin Bertram, Troy Neumeier and Kelly Perrault have also agreed to terms for the upcoming campaign.

member of the Len-come-back-circle
member of the FICKEN-(und das mach\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' ich nuuur um die Moderatoren zu ärgern! *g*)-circle
