Isles vs Tor

Das Spiel des abends
mccabe & hoglund führen die leafs zum sieg
Ich will ein game 7!!!!

SJ vs Coy

Sharks add chapter to storybook season

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Though Evgeni Nabokov is in top form and their offense finally is springing to life, the San Jose Sharks did everything possible to make sure they got the next few days off.
Nabokov made 22 saves, and Patrick Marleau had a goal and an assist as the Sharks roared into the Western Conference semifinals with a 4-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Friday night.
San Jose won the best-of-seven series 4-1, with Nabokov holding the Coyotes to one goal in each of the final three games. With several standing ovations from the exuberant fans at the Shark Tank, Nabokov finished the first full playoff series of his career with a .947 save percentage.
Everything was clicking for the Sharks in Game 5, but they would be happy to take the next few days off while Colorado -- likely their next opponent -- and Detroit attempt to finish their series.
"Everyone's still hungry in here. That's why there's no partying," captain Owen Nolan said. "We're going to be able to rest up for at least another day while the other teams are playing. That's why you strive so hard to finish quickly."
Adam Graves, Vincent Damphousse and Marco Sturm also scored for the Sharks. Stephane Matteau, scratched from two earlier games in the series, had two assists.
Nabokov's play -- and the sturdy defense in front of him -- were the primary reasons the Sharks quickly finished off their division rivals with three straight wins.
"It's really nice to do this in front of our fans," Nabokov said. "They've been waiting a long time for this. The next (round) is going to be great. It doesn't matter who we play."
After recording 99 points and their first division title during the regular season, the Sharks are in the second round of the playoffs for the fourth time in 11 seasons of existence -- but for the first time, the Sharks have the veteran talent and the goaltending to entertain hopes of advancing even further.
Marleau, the Sharks' 22-year-old center who came alive in the final weeks of the regular season, scored a point in all five of San Jose's playoff games against Phoenix. In the second period, he broke a scoreless tie with a fine rebound goal, then started a sequence that ended in Graves' goal.
"Patty and Nabby were our best players," coach Darryl Sutter said. "The importance of getting home ice in this series was that we didn't have to travel. Now we're probably going to have to travel, but hopefully the other series will go seven games."
Coyotes goalie Sean Burke wasn't as sharp as he had been early in the series, stopping just 15 shots. Phoenix's only goal came on Mike Johnson's penalty shot after Nabokov threw his stick to stop a scoring chance.
"I don't mean to sound sarcastic, but they outscored us," Burke said. "That team pretty much shut us down."
Though the Coyotes defied every expectation by even making the playoffs, they were knocked out in the first round for the 10th consecutive time since 1987, when they were still the Winnipeg Jets. Phoenix managed just seven goals in the series.
"It was a very valuable lesson and experience," Coyotes coach Bob Francis said. "It's one step at a time, and we made a gigantic leap this year."
The Sharks won the series without a goal from either Nolan or Teemu Selanne, their leading scorers in the regular season. That's no surprise from a team that depends on all four lines for offensive contributions.
After 30 scoreless, tentative minutes by both teams, Marleau's speed opened a 2-on-1 break with Todd Harvey. Burke stopped Harvey's shot, but Marleau alertly stayed on the play and reached out to poke the rebound into Phoenix's net.
Three minutes later, Marleau dug the puck out of the corner for Nolan, who skated to the net and made a spinning drop pass to Graves.
Phoenix cut it to 2-1 in the final seconds of the second period when Johnson was awarded a penalty shot, though replays appeared to show Nabokov simply losing control of his stick, which Nabokov confirmed.
But unlike their victories in Phoenix, in which they retreated into a defensive shell after taking a lead, the Sharks dominated play in the final period. Damphousse scored on his own rebound 5:20 in, and Sturm added a late breakaway goal on a fine pass from Niklas Sundstrom.

Game notes
It was the first playoff penalty shot in Coyotes-Jets franchise history. ... Burke is 3-15 in the playoffs since 1988. ... Phoenix's Claude Lemieux, the NHL's third-leading playoff scorer among active players, went scoreless in the series. He has 157 playoff points and four Stanley Cup rings. ... Nabokov got an assist on Sturm's goal. ... 49ers coach Steve Mariucci congratulated Sutter in the Sharks' locker room.

Ottawa vs. Philadelphia 4:1

Havlat's overtime goal leads Sens to series win

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- One goal wasn't enough to save the Philadelphia Flyers' season.
Martin Havlat's goal 7:33 into overtime Friday night lifted Ottawa to a 2-1 victory over Philadelphia, and sent the Senators to the second round of the playoffs for the second time in the franchise's 10-year history.
Ottawa won the best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarterfinal series 4-1.
Despite plenty of talent -- seven players have been All-Stars, three have had 50-goal seasons -- and a payroll of $55.5 million, the Flyers were eliminated in the first round for the fourth time in five years.
"After that first game, we played with a lot of confidence," said Senators goaltender Patrick Lalime, who had 25 saves. "We believed we can do it. Everybody was on the same page."
With Keith Primeau serving a two-minute penalty for cross checking, Ottawa took advantage.
Radek Bonk dug the puck out of the corner and passed it to Marian Hossa, who was to the left of Flyers goaltender Brian Boucher. Hossa sent a crossing pass to Havlat, who beat Boucher for his first career playoff goal.
"It was a great play by Radek and Marian," Havlat said. "It's a great feeling to win in overtime and finally get out of the first round."
The Flyers, shut out in their previous three games, finally scored on a power-play goal by Dan McGillis 3:53 into the game.
McGillis one-timed a pass from Eric Desjardins past Lalime for Philadelphia's first goal since Ruslan Fedotenko scored in overtime of Game 1.
Starting with Game 2, Ottawa's Lalime became just the fifth goalie to record three consecutive playoff shutouts -- and the second this season, joining Brent Johnson of St. Louis.
The Flyers established an NHL record for futility, becoming the first team to go five consecutive games -- dating to last season -- without scoring a goal in regulation time.
McGillis' goal snapped a string of 320 minutes, 36 seconds without a postseason regulation goal.
"I have no answers," Flyers coach Bill Barber said of the team's scoring slump. "It got to a point where it just snowballed."
Philadelphia's lead didn't last long.
Ottawa tied it on a power-play goal by Daniel Alfredsson with 4:44 left in the first. After the Flyers failed on three opportunities to clear the puck, Alfredsson one-timed a pass from Bonk over Boucher's glove, off the crossbar and in the net.
"We played more desperate," Alfredsson said. "We were jumping to the puck, winning battles. We were fighting for open space and we were skating better than they did."
Boucher, starting in place of Roman Cechmanek, made 25 saves. Boucher's previous playoff start came in Game 7 of the conference finals two years ago -- a 2-1 loss to New Jersey.
Boucher preserved a 1-1 tie with a glove save on a hard shot from in close by Shawn McEachern with seven minutes left in regulation. Bonk hit the post with just over a minute remaining.
Kim Johnsson had a chance to win it late in the third period for Philadelphia, but his slap shot bounced off Lalime's glove and trickled wide.
Lalime's best save came on rebound shot by Simon Gagne midway through the second.
Cechmanek allowed seven goals in four games, before being lifted after two periods of Game 3. After Ottawa's third goal Wednesday night, Cechmanek skated out to center ice and yelled at his teammates on the bench, imploring them to play better.
Some of the Flyers didn't appreciate Cechmanek's actions, but Barber insisted that wasn't the reason for the change.
"It's disappointing," Boucher said. "We were predicted to come out of the East. On paper, everybody thought we could be that team."

Game notes
Flyers RW Mark Recchi returned after missing Game 4 because of headaches resulting from a hit by Senators D Zdeno Chara during in Game 3. ... The Flyers were 1-for-16 on the power play. ... The only other time the Senators reached the second round in the franchise's 10 years was in 1998 when they lost to Washington in five games. They beat New Jersey to advance. ... As a No. 2 seed last year and in 1999, Ottawa lost in the first round.
