Boston - Montreal 5:2 (25:28)

Mon vs Boston

Laut ESPN (glaube ich) die interessanteste Serie

Mit Gill, Stock, Lapointe, Brown, Thornton, Bonvie usw. haben die Bären genug Kampfkraft, um dagegenzuhalten. Dazu noch das eigene Publikum im Rücken. Da wär ich gern live dabei...

BOS - 18:09, Stock (fighting - 5 min)
BOS - 18:09, Stock (misconduct - 10 min)
MON - 18:09, Odjick (fighting - 5 min)
MON - 18:09, Odjick (misconduct - 10 min)
BOS - 18:43, McLaren (attempt to injure - 10 min) served by Samsonov
BOS - 19:09, Zamuner (roughing - 2 min)
BOS - 19:09, Norton (fighting - 5 min)
MON - 19:09, Quintal (interference with goaltender - 2 min) served by Bulis
MON - 19:09, Quintal (roughing - 2 min)
MON - 19:09, Kilger (fighting - 5 min)

PJ "Stocker" Stock rulez, Gino Odjick aber auch!

Einige "nette" Zitate :

If they try to go after our best players, if that's part of Ftorek's strategy, we have no choice -- we'll go after their's," Therrien said, referring to Bruins coach Robbie Ftorek

The nastiness started before the hit on Zednik. The Bruins sent Stock, a fourth-line tough guy, on for a power play with two minutes left to play and Therrien sent out his fighter, Gino Odjick.
The two squared off and were sent off for fighting.
"I won't accept it," Therrien said. "A hit like that when it's 5-2 and to send P.J. Stock on the power play when it's 5-2 -- they were trying to laugh at us."

Therrien and Ftorek had a shouting match at the benches and the game ended with more fighting in the final minute. A few fans among the jeering capacity crowd of 21,273 threw beer and soda at the Bruins bench

"McLaren went after our best player. Wait until you see what we do on Saturday. We're gonna go after their best player. I don't care what my comments escalate. It will be a war on Saturday."

Hier mal wieder was in Englisch:

Vancouver vs. Detroit 2:3

Fedorov quickly gets Detroit on top in series

DETROIT (AP) -- Things are quite different for the Detroit Red Wings than they were a week ago.
Sergei Fedorov scored two of Detroit's four first-period goals and assisted on another as the Red Wings beat Vancouver 4-0 Thursday night for their third consecutive victory in the best-of-seven series after losing the first two games at home.
"We didn't feel that bad after the first two games," Fedorov said. "We knew what we could do and what we could control."
Game 6 is Saturday in Vancouver.
I don't think we played as bad as the final score indicates," Vancouver coach Marc Crawford said. "It's only one loss. We have to put it behind us and put all of our energy into playing well in Game 6."
The last time the Red Wings played in Joe Louis Arena, on Friday night, they were booed, cheered sarcastically and even offered suggestions via chants from their red-clad rabid fans when the Canucks took a 2-0 lead in the first-round series.
All that changed quickly in Game 5.
Just 4:02 into the game, Fedorov put Detroit ahead 1-0 with a slap shot between the circles, after Brendan Shanahan's shot rebounded off Dan Cloutier.
Then the Red Wings chased Cloutier and seemed to take the life out of the Canucks with two goals in a 1:57 span later in the period.
Steve Yzerman, who had two assists, insisted the Red Wings were never worried about their fate in the series.
"We started slow, but fortunately for us we've been up two and down two before and we realized we weren't done yet," Yzerman said. "We didn't fall apart."
Dominik Hasek, who made 25 saves, played his third consecutive solid game for the Red Wings.
"I feel good about the way I played," Hasek said. "But the game is over, and now I'm focused on the next game."
Detroit coach Scotty Bowman said how Hasek played while the Canucks had a man advantage four times was pivotal.
"The game was won with the saves he made on the penalty kills," Bowman said. "They got some chances in the six or seven minutes they were on the power play, but he made three or four saves that could've turned the game around."
While the Canucks were failing to score on their third power-play opportunity, Fedorov carried the puck through the center of the ice then passed it to Mathieu Dandenault, who beat Cloutier for a short-handed goal from the right circle.
Chants of "Let's Go Red Wings" replaced the rants of "Shoot The Puck," from Game 2 when Detroit was struggling to score.
"It's definitely big to get this win at home to get our fans behind us," Dandenault said.
Boyd Devereaux's goal off another rebound gave Detroit a 3-0 lead and sent Cloutier to the bench after stopping just six of nine shots. He was replaced by Peter Skudra, who made his first postseason appearance since playing one playoff game for Pittsburgh two years ago.
The Red Wings essentially ended the game with their fourth first-period goal, which illustrated the type of night it was for their collection of future Hall of Famers.
Brett Hull backhanded a pass from the left boards to the front of the net, and Fedorov, with only his right hand on his stick, poked the puck past Skudra as the crowd went wild.
The Canucks were impressed with Fedorov's night.
"He played well, skated well and created a lot of opportunities by using his speed," Vancouver's Markus Naslund said. "That was a key for them."
Vancouver president and general manager Brian Burke called a news conference to strongly criticize the officiating on Wednesday. After four games Detroit had a 17-16 advantage in power plays.
Thursday he was asked if he wanted to comment on the officiating after the first period, when the Canucks had three power plays to Detroit's one.
"No," Burke said.

“ We started slow, but fortunately for us we've been up two and down two before and we realized we weren't done yet. We didn't fall apart. ” — Detroit's Steve Yzerman

Game notes
Hull, who was pointless through four games, assisted on two goals Thursday, but has yet to score a goal. ... Vancouver has lost three consecutive games for the first time since March 7-10. ... Detroit won its first game at home since March 30. ... Dandenault's goal was his first in the playoffs since March 24, 1998. ... Naslund, who was second in the NHL in points during the regular season, has one goal and no assists in the series. ... Yzerman and Shanahan, who assisted on Fedorov's first goal, have at least a point in all five games.

Montreal vs. Boston 2:2

Short-handed goal gets Bruins rolling on the road

MONTREAL (AP) -- A high-scoring but relatively tame playoff series between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens turned ugly Thursday night.
With 1:17 left in Boston's 5-2 victory that evened the best-of-seven series after four games, Bruins defenseman Kyle McLaren caught Richard Zednik, Montreal's leading scorer, with a vicious elbow that knocked out the forward. McLaren was given a five-minute match penalty.
Zednik was motionless as he was treated on the ice for about five minutes then was removed on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital. The Canadiens said Friday morning that Zednik has a concussion and injuries to the nose and right eye.
Montreal coach Michel Therrien threatened retaliation against the Bruins' top players in Game 5 on Saturday in Boston.
"If they try to go after our best players, if that's part of Ftorek's strategy, we have no choice -- we'll go after their's," Therrien said, referring to Bruins coach Robbie Ftorek.
When asked if his threat will only escalate the violence, Therrien said: "I don't care. This is what they did and this is what we're going to do."
Ftorek refused to comment on the hit, but McLaren said he did nothing wrong.
"I felt I him hit with my shoulder and the back of my arm and that was it," McLaren said. "It all happened so fast.
"They gave me five and a match and I'll live with that. I've played seven years and 400 games and never received a suspension. I don't go out on the ice trying to hurt anybody."
The Bruins took a 3-0 lead in the first period on goals from Stock, Bill Guerin and Martin Lapointe. Brian Rolston added a key short-handed goal in the second and Sergei Samsonov got a goal in the third.
Zednik scored both Montreal goals on power plays and leads the team with eight points in four games.
The Canadiens were also upset with Guerin, who brought down defenseman Andrei Markov with an open ice knee-check in the second period. Guerin got two minutes for clipping. Markov finished the game, but is questionable for Saturday.
Both Therrien and Odjick compared McLaren's hit on Zednik to the elbow thrown by Tie Domi on New Jersey defenseman Scott Niedermayer during last year's playoffs, which resulted in an eight-game suspension for the Toronto enforcer.
"The precedent has been set -- he should be suspended for eight games," Odjick said. "It's just like Domi last year.
"I'd like for the league to treat everybody the same. When you try to injure someone with a hit to the head, you're suspended for the rest of the series. You can't have different rules for different players.
"It's the same for Guerin on Markov. He needed an injection to finish the game and he may not play the next game."
NHL spokesman Frank Brown declined comment, but said the league was aware of the incidents.
Therrien and Ftorek had a shouting match at the benches and the game ended with more fighting in the final minute. A few fans among the jeering capacity crowd of 21,273 threw beer and soda at the Bruins bench.
Zednik looked to have taunted Byron Dafoe after scoring his second goal of the game, perhaps hoping to put the Bruins goaltender off his game.
In Game 3 on Tuesday night, Dafoe allowed three third-period goals in a 5-3 comeback win for Montreal.
There was no Boston collapse this time.
Leading 3-0, the Bruins appeared to be in disarray after Zednik scored the first of his two goals on a power play at 14:14 of the second period.
Then Rolston scored a short-handed goal at 15:46 to kill the momentum. After Zednik scored again at 7:07 of the third, Samsonov got his first of the series at 14:20.

Game notes
With an assist on Zednik's second goal, Doug Gilmour tied former New York Islander Bryan Trottier for sixth place in career playoff points with 184. ... The U.S. national anthem was booed by some fans for a second straight game, but it didn't catch on with the majority of the crowd and faded as the song went on. ... Bill Lindsay was scratched for Montreal and replaced by Jan Bulis. ... Boston used Jeff Norton in place of defenseman Sean Brown and Jamie Rivers for forward Dennis Bonvie.

They [Montreal] did call up 6-foot-5, 221-pound Matt O'Dette from Quebec of the AHL where he had 136 penalties and eight points in 48 games this season.

"Anything I can do to help out, I'm willing to do," he said. "If I can finish checks and just try to be a physical presence, that's basically all my game is."

ESPN mutmasst, wer das Ziel sein könnte:
With McLaren suspended by the NHL for at least one game, Boston goal-scoring leader Bill Guerin could become a target.

Guerins Reaktion darauf angesprochen:
"I'm a big boy," Guerin said. "I can handle myself."
Geil ! Das ist sie, die richtige Einstellung !!

Und das Zitat der Woche ist von Montreals Coach:
Montreal coach Michel Therrien said, "If they try to go after our best players ... we have no choice. We'll go after theirs."
