LaBarbera's stick struck a fan

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Goaltender Jason LaBarbera of the Charlotte Checkers was suspended 18 games by the East Coast Hockey League on Monday because he threw his stick and it hit a fan.
When LaBarbera was taken out in the second period of the playoff game at Atlantic City on April 6, he threw his stick down the tunnel leading to Charlotte's dressing room.
"We took the necessary time to complete a thorough investigation of this unfortunate accident," said Troy Ward, the league's senior vice president of hockey operations.
"Although Mr. LaBarbera's actions were clearly unintentional, players are responsible for their sticks at all times."
LaBarbera served the first game of his suspension when he missed the April 10 playoff game against Atlantic City, Charlotte's last game of the season.
