Gerüchte 12 Tage vor der Trading Deadline! Antworten
WHO TEAMS THE SKINNY

Darius Kasparaitis
Detroit March 5: Not only is he a spring rental, but he's a cheap one. Though he's 29, he's been in the league 10 years and earns below the league's $1.5 million average salary, making him an unrestricted free agent on July 1, when there will be plenty of offers. The Penguins have a bit of leverage if a legitimate Stanley Cup contender with a deep minor league system comes calling, but not too much as they can't afford to lose him for nothing over the summer.

WHO TEAMS THE SKINNY

Ed Belfour
St. Louis
Toronto March 5: When Marty Turco was in college, the joke was that the University of Michigan would spot opponents a goal so Marty could get a soft one out of the way. He's gotten over that propensity, much to Ed Belfour's chagrin, and is on the verge of taking over the No. 1 spot in Dallas, rendering the 37-year-old soon-to-be unrestricted free agent expendable. Blues GM Larry Pleau says he's not looking for a goalie, but Belfour's track record (on the ice, not off) may be irresistable.

WHO TEAMS THE SKINNY

Mike Richter
St. Louis
March 5: It's all about timing. Richter is the one keeping the Rangers in the playoff picture. Should they start to fall out of it, GM Glen Sather may ship the soon-to-be unrestricted free agent out.

WHO TEAMS THE SKINNY

Bill Guerin
Colorado
Detroit
St. Louis
March 5: Another timing issue...and a money one. If the Bruins are still near the top of the standings come March 19, they'll likely hang on to him -- the risk of losing him for nothing come July 1 is worth the few extra home games in the playoffs. If they start falling down the standings (i.e. lose three in a row like they just did), trading him seems like a stronger possibility -- although it would wreak havoc on team chemistry. The Boston Globe estimates his salary request in the John LeClair range -- $45 million over five years.

WHO TEAMS THE SKINNY

Bobby Holik
Atlanta
Colorado
March 5: Holik is committed to entertaining offers when he becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1. If the Devils continue to climb up the standings, they may hold on to him for the playoffs and trade him for a combination of live bodies and picks in a draft day deal. Agent Mike Gillis doesn't see either of his clients -- Holik or Tony Amonte -- being traded by the deadline. The Thrashers could use him between Ilya Kovalchuk and Dany Heatley next season.

WHO TEAMS THE SKINNY

Tony Amonte
Colorado
New Jersey
Toronto
Washington
March 5: For the past five seasons, Amonte has led the team in either goals, assists or points. He's leading them in neither right now. Amonte rejected a $6 million offer in November, now his fate seems to coincide with Alex Zhamnov's success. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, owner Bill Wirtz pointed to Zhamnov's three-year, $4-million a year contract and asked: "Is Tony worth 2½ times as much as Alex?"

WHO TEAMS THE SKINNY

Adam Oates
Atlanta
Colorado March 5: At the start of the season, Oates said he wanted to be traded if he wan't offered an extension. Now it seems he doesn't want to go anywhere, especially as a rent-a-player.

TEAM WHAT THE SKINNY
Vancouver A forward March 5: With Trent Klatt out indefinitely, and Harold Druken, Herbert Vasiljevs and Tyler Bouck all gone for the season, the Canucks are in desparate need for help up front. "I'm content with what we have right now, but we're awfully thin in terms of what we have left here and what we have to recall," GM Brian Burke told the Vancouver Province.

TEAM WHAT THE SKINNY
Toronto A goalie March 5: Curtis Joseph is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks due to a broken bone in his hand, suffered Feb. 26 against Carolina. That puts his return between the Leafs' third to last game of the season and a full week into the playoffs. Word out of Toronto is the Leafs are interested in Florida's Trevor Kidd and that they have already spoken to Columbus about Ron Tugnutt. As an aside, CuJo is an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Expect the Leafs' fate without him to be a topic of discussion in negotiations.

WHO TEAMS THE SKINNY

Robert Lang,
Pittsburgh
Colorado
St. Louis March 7: Doesn't an injury automatically knock a player off the trading block? According to reports in the Pittsburgh press, Lang broke a bone in his left hand and it is not displaced. That's good news on two fronts -- one, he shouldn't need surgery; and two, as a right-handed shooter, he uses his left hand less anyway. The Post-Gazette reports that Lang's agent, Paul Kraus, still expects him to be traded. If so, there are plenty of teams that could use a veteran center. Colorado and St. Louis just happen to be two teams that may be able to afford to re-sign him before he's an unrestricted free agent this summer.

TEAM WHAT THE SKINNY
A goalie March 7: Now that Carolina has added Kevin Weekes from Tampa, Tom Barrasso is available. "(Arturs Irbe) is going to be the guy that's here. He's got a three-year contract. I'm a free agent. I think that's a pretty simple one to figure out," Barrasso told the Raleigh News & Observer. Coining a phrase from an ESPN colleague, not so fast my friend. One rumor out of Toronto has the 'Canes shopping Irbe, instead. If Ron Tugnutt was ever up for grabs, he's less likely to be so after Marc Denis suffered a groin pull Wednesday night. Other goalies on the radar screen: Calgary's Mike Vernon, Florida's Trevor Kidd, Dallas' Ed Belfour.

TEAM WHAT THE SKINNY
A forward
A defenseman March 7: Gotta love the N.Y. Post this time of year. No fewer than five players are mentioned as possible trade pickups. Among the defensemen mentioned are Carolina's David Tanabe, Edmonton's Tom Poti and Atlanta's Jiri Slegr. Among the forwards are Calgary's Craig Conroy, Columbus' Mike Sillinger and Buffalo's Chris Gratton. GM Lou Lamoriello reportedly has already balked at giving up Scott Gomez for Conroy. The only Devils player mentioned as trade bait is Sergei Brylin. Although if the Devils get a inexpensive young defenseman, they may package defensemen Mike Commodore, Ken Daneyko, Andrei Zyuzin or even Brian Rafalski, along with a forward to obtain a high-end scorer.

WHO TEAMS THE SKINNY

Bill Guerin,
Boston
Colorado
Detroit
St. Louis
March 7: The Boston Herald reports that while Bill Guerin denies any conversations have taken place, the Bruins have made overtures to re-sign the veteran winger before the trade deadline. Guerin has said he'd like to stay in Boston. GM Mike O'Connell has said the Bruins would love to have him stay. The issue, as always, is convincing owner Jeremy Jacobs the Guerin is worth the $8-9 million a year.

WHO TEAMS THE SKINNY

Pavel Bure,
Florida
Dallas
NY Rangers
March 11: The Panthers are putting out feelers regarding what they could get back for their unhappy winger, and reports out of Florida are that the Stars are interested. Florida has reportedly asked for Jamie Langenbrunner and Brenden Morrow and a first-round draft pick for Bure, who as the second-highest-paid player in the NHL at $10 million, is owed $20 million over the next two seasons and potentially $31 million over three (Langenbrunner, 26, and Morrow, 23, make $2.3 million combined). The New York Post reported that the Rangers have already turned down two pitches from the Panthers in which they were trying to get back some of the Rangers young talent.

WHO TEAMS THE SKINNY

Tom Poti,
Edmonton
Pittsburgh
NY Rangers
Carolina March 11: Edmonton GM Kevin Lowe is believed to be on his way to Pittsburgh or New York to make a deal involving the defenseman, according to reports out of Edmonton. Apparently, Lowe talked to Rangers GM Glen Sather late last week and speculation is that Sather might be willing to part with Mike York or Radek Dvorak and a defenseman in a deal for Poti. Lowe was in Pittsburgh over the weekend and met briefly with GM Craig Patrick, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. That possible deal could be a one-for-one involving Darius Kasparaitis. The Hurricanes could offer up 21-year-old David Tanabe.
