PITTSBURGH (AP) - Martin Straka will rejoin the Pittsburgh Penguins Wednesday, two months ahead of schedule.
Doctors said Straka would likely be out six months when he broke his right leg against the Florida Panthers on Oct. 28.
But the center practiced Friday with Pittsburgh's players who didn't go to the Winter Games and was expected to work out with the team Saturday and Sunday.
Straka said an X-ray Thursday confirmed that his right tibia is healed enough for him to play when the Penguins resume the regular season against the Los Angeles Kings.
"Everything's fine," Straka said. "I should be ready to go if nothing happens in the next couple of days." Straka was the Penguins' leading scorer with five goals and four assists in 11 games when he was hurt, and the team is hoping he'll provide the spark to get them into the playoffs.
The Penguins are in 12th place in the Eastern Conference, seven points out of the final playoff spot with 24 games left in the regular season. They have made the playoffs the last 11 seasons.
