Junior hockey: Omaha shuts out Gamblers

Press-Gazette

OMAHA, Neb. — Dominic Vicari made 19 saves to earn his third consecutive shutout as the Omaha Lancers topped the Green Bay Gamblers 2-0 in a United States Hockey League game at Ak-Sar-Ben Coliseum on Friday night.

Vicari got a lot of help from his defensemen on rebounds to keep his streak for the league-leading Lancers (28-9-2).

“We didn’t do a good job getting second-chance opportunities,” Gamblers coach Mark Osiecki said.

Eric Pfligler stopped 23 shots for the Gamblers (20-13-4).

John Thomas had both goals for the Lancers, including an empty-netter with 1:30 left. Aaron Slattengren assisted on both goals.

• Gamblers forward Chris Michael has committed to play at Miami of Ohio next season. He has 11 goals and 30 points in 36 games. He is the ninth player from this season's team to commit to a Division I college
