Burish scores 3 as Gamblers again beat Steel

ASHWAUBENON — For whatever reason, the Green Bay Gamblers just can’t lose to the Chicago Steel.
The Gamblers ran their season record against the Steel to 6-0 and won their fourth straight game overall with a 6-1, United States Hockey League victory in front of 3,872 fans at Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena on Friday night.
Gamblers right wing Adam Burish provided most of the excitment with his hat trick — the Gamblers’ second this season.
“The second two, my teammates just set me up perfectly,” said Burish, whose 20 goals leads the team. “In practice lately we’ve been talking about bearing down at the net, and the last few games we’ve been putting our chances in for the most part.”
Burish has scored seven goals in the Gamblers’ (20-11-4) winning streak, and the line of him, center A.J. Degenhardt and left wing Matt Johnson is clicking like it did earlier in the season.
“We work well together,” said Burish, whose hat trick included a shorthanded, a power-play and an even-strength goal. “I love playing with those guys. They’re hard-working and, like today, they set me up perfectly.”
Green Bay scored two shorthanded goals, two power-play goals and held Chicago (13-17-6) scoreless in six power-play chances.
“I laugh because we’ve been playing the same way, and we’re finally getting some goals,” Gamblers coach Mark Osiecki said. “We haven’t changed anything. The guys have been playing hard whether it’s been good or bad. They’re starting to figure out that it is a war-type setting where you’re going to go to battle for your brother. We want that feeling where they’re not going to let down the guy they’re sitting next to.”
After earning the USHL Defensive Player of the Week Award, Gamblers goaltender Eric Pfligler played another solid game. Pfligler allowed only one goal on 22 shots and had his bid for a shutout spoiled by Topher Scott’s goal at the 16:47 mark of the final period.
Pfligler’s play is an encouraging sign, especially after backup Josh Gartner quit the team.
“From a maturity and age standpoint, it’s still going to happen where it’s up and down this year,” Osiecki said. “But we want him to build confidence, we want him to gain the game experience. He has been the guy, but now he knows it. I like the fact that he knows he’s going to be leaned on heavily.”
Gamblers right wing Tim Stapleton assisted on three goals and centers Chris Michael and Joe Crabb and defenseman Nate Guenin all had a goal and an assist.
