THE league-leading F.C. Barcelona Dragons were beaten and the Rhein Fire and Frankfurt Galaxy won nail-biters on a night of high drama in the NFLEL.
The Dragons went down 24-14 at home to the Berlin Thunder, while the Rhein Fire held on to win 34-27 at the Amsterdam Admirals. The Galaxy came from 21-6 down at halftime before beating the Scottish Claymores 33-27 in overtime.
MARC LESTER scored his third touchdown on Quinn Gray's third scoring pass of the night as the Frankfurt Galaxy grabbed a sensational overtime win against the Scottish Claymores.
Having trailed 21-6 at halftime and 27-21 inside the two-minute warning, it was an incredible comeback by the Galaxy, capped when Gray, allocated by the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Lester, of the Baltimore Ravens, hooked up for a 45-yard score.
Galaxy quarterback James Brown had earlier thrown two touchdown passes, while tight end Josh Whitman caught a pair of touchdown passes
The Claymores lost on a night when two of their running backs gained more than 100 yards on the ground. The Chicago Bears' Maurice Hicks began his evening with a long touchdown run, while Ken Simonton, of the Buffalo Bills, became the third player in league history to rush for three figures in three straight games.
The Claymores had been having offensive problems since scoring 62 points in the first game of the season, but they found the endzone three times in the first half to take a 21-6 advantage.
They exploded into an early lead when Maurice Hicks broke through tackles to race 58 yards down the left sideline and then Nall dumped off a short pass to Simonton and he picked his way through the home defense for a 37-yard score.
The Galaxy's opening score came when Robert Baker found a seam in the Scotland defence to turn Quinn Gray's pass into a 43-yard touchdown. But a 5-yard touchdown pass to Scott McCready from Shane Stafford capped an 83-yard drive and put the Claymores into 21-6 halftime lead.
Local hero Daniel Benetka brought the crowd of 22,234 to life by grabbing an interception to set up a drive that ended with ex-Claymores quarterback James Brown firing an 8-yard touchdown pass to tight end Josh Whitman.
With momentum shifting towards the home team, Calvin Spears picked off Nall to regain possession for the Galaxy, but Jon Hilbert was off target with a 38-yard field goal. And just to deflate Frankfurt even more, Nall found McCready for 44 yards to put Scotland in a threatening position - although Rob Hart missed his 39-yard field goal attempt.
But again the pendulum swung towards the Galaxy, Frenchman Marc Soumah's reception paving the way for Brown to scramble right and hit Marc Lester in the endzone from 6 yards. Jonas Lewis ran off left tackle for the two-point conversion and the score was tied up at 21-21.
But Scotland quickly regained the lead, Simonton sprinting away for a 60-yard gain and Nall connecting with John Minardi for a 20-yard touchdown. Hart's unhappy night continued as he missed a PAT attempt for the first time in his six-year NFLEL career.
Scotland could not punch in a score on their next drive, giving Frankfurt possession at their own 20-yard with two minutes remaining. Quarterback Gray found Lester and Whitman for first downs and ran for one himself before tight end Kori Dickerson made a great catch in traffic at the 14-yard line.
Gray calmly dropped back and tossed the ball to Lester for a touchdown to tie the score but a bad snap prevented Ralf Kleinmann - back in uniform after a hip injury made him miss the first three quarters - from attempting the extra point, sending the game into overtime.

Gewonne is gewonne!!
