Forwards
SERGEI FEDOROV Age: 32 Last Salary: $2,000,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 36-47-83, 52, +15
Fedorov has played out the end of a six-year, $38-million contract signed during the 1997-98 season. He received $28-million of that sum up front, and earned $2 million a season for the duration of the deal. The Red Wings are still the front-runner to re-sign Fedorov , who played very well this season with Steve Yzerman out.
TEEMU SELANNE Age: 32 Last Salary: $6,500,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 28-36-64, 30, -6
The San Jose Sharks' leading scorer in 2002-2003 became a free agent when he decided not to exercise a player option in his contract. Though Selanne's production is nowhere near his 76-goal rookie campaign, but has never scored less than 20 goals in each of his last 11 seasons.
RAY WHITNEY Age: 31 Last Salary: $2,600,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 24-52-76, 22, -26
Despite a nasty plus/minus playing for the struggling Blue Jackets, Whitney has been among the bright lights for a team trying to shake off the expansion label. He helped carry the team's offence with 140 points in 151 games.
TODD MARCHANT Age: 29 Last Salary: $1,540,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 20-40-60, 48, +13
Marchant's value on the market improved considerably this season when he went from a checker to a go-to guy with 20 goals and 40 assists. Prior to the 2002-2003 campaign, he had never scored more than 19 goals and 40 points in a given year. The cash-strapped Oilers will be hard pressed to try to re-sign him.
VACLAV PROSPAL Age: 28 Last Salary: $1,550,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 22-57-79, 53, +9
Since coming to Tampa two seasons ago, Prospal has been the unsung hero on offence for the Lightning. He enjoyed a career-high 79 points in 2002-2003, leading the team in regular season scoring.
MICHAEL NYLANDER Age: 30 Last Salary: $1,800,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 17-39-56, 36, +3
Nylander has been a consistent second-line centre over the last four seasons with at least 40 assists and 50 points in each campaign. Taking the offensive load off first-liners like Robert Lang and Jaromir Jagr helped get the Caps back to the postseason.
ANDREW CASSELS Age: 33 Last Salary: $2,600,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 20-48-68, 30, -4
The acquisition of Cassels paid off handsomely for the Blue Jackets last summer, as he finished second in team scoring with 20 goals and 68 points. Playing with former Hartford Whalers linemate Geoff Sanderson gave him his best season numbers since they played together 11 seasons ago.
BRYAN SMOLINSKI Age: 31 Last Salary: $2,400,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 21-25-46, 20, 0
The Ottawa Senators dealt blueline prospect Tim Gleason to acquire Smolinski at the trade deadline for their playoff run. His eight game-winning goals this season placed him among the league leaders in the NHL. With Jason Spezza still waiting in the wings, it's hard to say if Ottawa will try to re-sign him.
PIERRE TURGEON Age: 34 Last Salary: $6,000,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 12-30-42, 18, +4
He never quite fit into the Stars' defensive system and his point totals suffered in Dallas. The Stars released him, making him a free agent. He's still young enough to contribute points if given the opportunity to play his game.
DARREN McCARTY Age: 31 Last Salary: $1,950,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 13-9-22, 138, +10
Known as a very physical skater and agitator, McCarty's defensive game has worked well for the Red Wings - especially in the playoffs, where he is a career +19. His flair for the rough stuff has also made him one of Detroit's most popular players, making him a likely candiate to return with the Wings.
JOE NIEUWENDYK Age: 36 Last Salary: $5,000,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 17-28-45, 56, +10
Whether it be age, injuries, or the defence-first mentality playing for the Devils and Stars, Nieuwendyk's numbers have slowly dropped over the last few seasons. However, he is still one of the league's best faceoff men and excels in pressure situations.
LUC ROBITAILLE Age: 37 Last Salary: $4,000,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 11-20-31, 50, +4
Detroit decided not to exercise its option on Robitaille's contract for next season. The veteran left-winger followed a Stanley Cup-winning season with the worst offensive output of his career, scoring just 11 goals and 31 points in 81 games. Given a chance on a top line, he might still be able to score.
MAGNUS ARVEDSON Age: 31 Last Salary: $1,650,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 16-21-37, 48, +13
Arvedson has made a career out of a strong two-way game and is considered one of the league's best defensive forwards. His playoff perfomances are quite a contrast, as he has never finished in the positive column in postseason plus/minus.

Defencemen
DERIAN HATCHER Age: 31 Last Salary: $4,200,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 8-22-30, 106, +37
He is among the finalists for the Norris Trophy as the league's top defenceman after having a career year in Dallas. The Stars are likely to make a strong bid to keep Hatcher and have already shedded some salary (Pierre Turgeon) to make room for his new contract.
BRIAN LEETCH Age: 35 Last Salary: $9,680,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 12-18-30, 20, -3
He is slowing down a bit, but Leetch can still log a lot of minutes and remains a dominant force on the powerplay. He missed 31 games with an ankle injury, but continued to put up offensive numbers after returning to the Rangers' lineup.
ERIC DESJARDINS Age: 33 Last Salary: $4,000,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 8-24-32, 35, +30
When Desjardins broke his foot in the playoffs, the Flyers' defence never recovered. He's a legitimate number one defender who still has some offensive ability. In 14 NHL seasons, Desjardins is +184 and has only been in the red three times. He's never been worse than -3 over a full season.
DMITRY YUSHKEVICH Age: 31 Last Salary: $2,750,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 3-11-14, 46, -9
Don't be misled by the fact he played on three teams last year. When he finally went to a good team, Philadelphia, Yushkevich played very well. He doesn't score much anymore, but Yushkevich has become a tough and steady defender.
GREG de VRIES Age: 30 Last Salary: $1,375,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 6-26-32, 70, +15
A classic late-bloomer, the undrafted de Vries has turned into a solid two-way defenceman. In the last three seasons with the Avalanche, de Vries is a cumulative +56 and showed occassional offensive flashes - especially in the post-season. At 30, he's still in his prime and has a lot of tread left on his tires.
KEN KLEE Age: 32 Last Salary: $1,550,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 5-21-26, 96, +13
He doesn't put up many numbers in the stats columns, but Klee does a lot of the dirty work required to win games. He blocks shots, makes big hits and clears the front of the net. Klee isn't a top two defender, but he would be a reasonably priced addition to any rotation seeking toughness and elbow grease.
CORY CROSS Age: 32 Last Salary: $750,000
Vital Statistics (G-A-Pts, Pim, +/-): 2-7-9, 24, +16
He did not sign with the Rangers until December and, though Cross played well, he was traded to Edmonton. He was effective with the Oilers, too, and then played pretty well with Canada at the World Championship. Cross is not very mobile, but he's big, strong and effective enough to warrant attention this summer.

Goaltenders
CHRIS OSGOOD Age: 30 Last Salary: $4,000,000
Vital Statistics (W-L-T, GAA, Sv %): 21-17-6, 2.94, .892
(Re-signed with St. Louis before hitting the open market) Osgood did not play as well as the Blues hoped after they acquired him from the Islanders for the stretch run, but he remains a strong commodity. A solid starter who remains relatively young, Osgood has a wealth of experience that includes two Stanley Cup rings. The Blues brought him back with a one year deal at a reportedly low price.
FELIX POTVIN Age: 32 Last Salary: $3,550,000
Vital Statistics (W-L-T, GAA, Sv %): 17-20-3, 2.66, .894
Potvin is coming off the worst of his three full seasons in Los Angeles, but much of that can be blamed on the rest of the underacheiving team and a sprained knee that caused him to miss the final 31 games. The Cat still has the skills and veteran experience to be a number one goalie.
JEFF HACKETT Age: 35 Last Salary: $3,600,000
Vital Statistics (W-L-T, GAA, Sv %): 15-17-2, 2.86, .911
Hackett struggled a little bit after being traded to the Bruins, but was terrific in Montreal and rebounded with a decent playoff performance for Boston. Hackett has reportedly talked about retirement, but the Bruins would like to bring him back.
danke jan für den schönen abend!!! Ok, ok, ich weiß das ich gut bin ...
