NEW YORK -- Head coaches Jacques Martin of the Ottawa Senators and Marc Crawford of the Vancouver Canucks will lead the Eastern and Western Conference All-Star Teams, respectively, at the 2003 NHL All-Star Game presented by Nextel, Sunday, Feb. 2, in Sunrise, Fla. (2:30 p.m. ET, ABC, CBC, RDS), the National Hockey League announced today. Philadelphia Flyers head coach Ken Hitchcock will join Martin behind the Eastern Conference All-Star bench. Detroit Red Wings head coach Dave Lewis will assist Crawford for the Western Conference All-Stars.
Under the selection process for All-Star coaches, the head coach and assistant coach for the Eastern Conference All-Stars are the head coaches of the two teams with the top points percentages in the Eastern Conference through games of Jan. 8. The head coach and assistant coach of the Western Conference All-Stars are the head coaches of the two teams with the best points percentages in the Western Conference.
Martin's Senators lead the Eastern Conference with a points percentage of .683, posting 56 points in 41 games (25-10-5-1), followed by Hitchcock's Flyers at .638 with 51 points in 40 games (21-10-8-1).
Crawford's Canucks are first in the Western Conference with a points percentage of .671, recording 55 points in 41 games (25-11-5-0), narrowly edging the Red Wings' Lewis at .667 with 56 points in 42 games (24-10-7-1).
The NHL All-Star Game is the centerpiece of NHL All-Star Weekend presented by Nextel, which includes the Dodge/NHL SuperSkills Competition and Topps/NHL YoungStars Game on Saturday, Feb. 1 and the NHL All-Star Block Party presented by Nextel. The NHL All-Star Block Party, which runs from Jan. 30 - Feb. 1, is an eight-acre interactive hockey and entertainment festival adjacent to the Office Depot Center.
Rock on, and on, and on...
John LeClair breaks down the left wing all alone, moves into the circle and cranks a wicked slap shot with zero hesitation. The baffled goaltender is left with no answers, just questions as the First Union Center's horn blazes and the crowd booms.
