NEW YORK -- Craig Berube of the Calgary Flames was suspended for five games by the NHL on Tuesday for cross-checking Doug Weight of the St. Louis Blues.
The incident happened Saturday night -- in Berube's first action after serving a three-game suspension for another incident. Berube had been suspended three games for his involvement in a brawl with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.
The Blues won Saturday night's game 4-0.
Berube drew a match penalty after hitting Weight in the throat at 12:51 of the third period.
Weight said after the game he is not angry with Berube for the hit to his throat.
"Craig's been a solid player throughout his whole entire career," he said. "He's a very honest player. I have respect for him. I just think he lost it there a little bit. He hit me in the throat."
Berube will be eligible to return on Dec. 31 against the Edmonton Oilers.
