HELSINKI, Finland -- Defenseman Ric Jackman scored twice and Joe Nieuwendyk had a goal and an assist to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 5-3 exhibition victory over Jokerit of Finland.
Jackman opened the scoring 2:10 into the game and Nieuwendyk doubled Toronto's lead 5:36 later.
Nieuwendyk, who signed a one-year contract last week with the Maple Leafs after helping the New Jersey Devils win the Stanley Cup last season, set up Jackman's second goal of the game to give the Maple Leafs a 3-1 lead just under seven minutes into the second.
Ed Belfour started in the nets for Toronto and played just under 39 minutes, making seven saves.
Tomi Maki and Tomek Valtonen scored third-period goals for Jokerit.

Mit 5:3 haben die Toronto Maple Leafs ein Freundschaftsspiel gegen Jokerit Helsinki gewonnen. Der NHL-Klub führt damit eine Tradition fort, wonach ein oder mehrere Teams aus der besten Profiliga der Welt unmittelbar vor Saisonstart auf eine kurze Gastspielreise außerhalb von Nordamerika geht.
Nach Japan im vergangenen Jahr haben diesmal die Finnen die Ehre eines NHL-Besuches für sich beanspruchen können. Für die Zuschauer in Helsinki hielt sich der Jubel allerdings in Grenzen - denn die erfolgsverwöhnte Equipe aus dem Land der tausend Seen hatte gegen die Ost-Kanadier recht wenig zu bestellen. In erstaunlicher Frühform präsentierte sich in Reihen der Leafs übrigens Neuzugang Joe Nieuwendyk. Der Oldie, der erst in der letzten Woche einen Vertrag unterschrieben hatte, erzielte ein Tor selbst und bereitete ein weiteres vor. Most valueable player bei den Leafs wurde jedoch ausgerechnet ein Finne: Jarko Immonen, der zwei Tore zum Sieg beisteuerte.

Olli Jokinen scored a hat trick and Roberto Luongo stopped eight of nine shots and added an assist as the Florida Panthers routed the Carolina Hurricanes 9-2 in the first preseason game of the 2003-04 NHL season. Jokinen scored twice in the second period to complete his hat trick – the team's first in the preseason since Niklas Hagman tallied three against Carolina in Estero, Florida on Sept. 18, 2001 – and linemates Viktor Kozlov and Eric Messier assisted on all three goals.
Carolina struck first with an early power-play tally by Radim Vrbata just 2:55 into the game. But Branislav Mezei tied the score with a tap in of a nice centering feed from Valeri Bure on the power play at 4:51. Left wing Kristian Huselius broke the 1-1 tie at the 15:29 mark of the first period and the Panthers were off and running. Jokinen closed the first period with the first of his three goals with 2:36 to play before the first intermission.
Darcy Hordichuk kept things going Florida's way 2:35 into the second, jamming the rebound of an Anthony Stewart shot past Patrick Desrochers. Craig MacDonald also assisted on the Hordichuk tally. Jokinen's second of the night came just 1:13 later and Jay Bouwmeester added a blazing slap-shot from the left point less than a minute after that. Jokinen capped the second-period scoring with his third of the night at 18:06, giving the Cats a 7-1 lead after two periods.
Michael Zigomanis snapped the string of seven straight Florida goals 2:02 into the third period. But Kristian Huselius and Mike Van Ryn added third-period markers, giving the Panthers their most goals ever in a preseason contest. Valeri Bure finished the night with four assists. Huselius finished with two goals and an assist and Mezei added one tally and two helpers. Chris Mason played the final 30:01 in goal and stopped 16 of 17 shots. Desrochers took the loss for Carolina, stopping eight of 14 shots. Rob Zepp fared a little better, stopping six of nine.
The Panthers don't have much time to enjoy their victory, as they square off against the Colorado Avalanche at Fort Collins, Colo. Saturday night.

It was a rough return to the ice for Dominik Hasek. In his first game since coming out of retirement, Hasek allowed three goals on 14 shots in two periods as the Red Wings fell to the Rangers.

ich finds dumm von hasek, er kann nix mehr gewinnen nur noch verlieren, das würde ich aber auch sagen wenn Bourque nochmal wiederkommen würde, hat nix mit wings oder hasek zu tun
