Team Press Release

August 11, 2003

Pride Ink High-Scoring Veteran
Florence Pride Press Release

FLORENCE, SC – The Florence Pride today announced the signing of veteran center Victor Gervais to a contract for the 2003-2004 season. Gervais becomes the first player the Pride have under contract for the upcoming season.

The 34-year-old Gervais is no stranger to the ECHL. During his career, he played in 239 games with the now defunct Hampton Roads Admirals, tallying 151 goals and 282 assists for 433 points. Gervais’ best season in the ECHL came in 1992-93. In 59 games that season, he tallied 38 goals and added a league-leading 80 assists for 118 points. That season he finished second in the league in scoring. While in Hampton Roads, Gervais was a member of two league championship teams, leading the Admirals to the Riley Cup in 1992, and the Kelly Cup in 1998.

In addition to his time with Hampton Roads, Gervais has appeared in 230 games in the International and American Hockey Leagues. In 469 North American professional games, the Prince George, BC native has 204 goals and added 391 assists.

Gervais returns to North America after playing the past five seasons with the Frankfurt Lions in the German DEL, often acknowledged as the best hockey league in Europe. In 250 games with the Lions, Gervais had 64 goals and 91 assists for 155 points.

“Victor is an exciting hockey player that Pride fans will love to watch,” said Pride Head Coach Perry Florio, aka “The Godfather”. “Victor is a leader and a role model. He has won two championships in the ECHL, and in our tough division we will need players who know what it takes to win. We lost Greg Schmidt to Europe but I feel that we have more than made up for that loss with the signing of Victor Gervais.”

Full-season tickets, mini-packages and flex-plan vouchers for the 2003-2004 season are now available. For more information, or to place your order, visit the Pride offices, located at the Florence Civic Center, or call (843) 669-7825.

The Pride open their seventh season in Florence on Saturday, October 18, hosting the Columbia Inferno at 7:30 p.m. Group tickets for opening night are now available. Groups of 20 or more can get discounted tickets, and have their name printed in the game-day program and announced over the public-address system. For more information on the Pride group package, call the Pride at (843) 669-7825.

Mens PanAM Games

Team Canada Inline (Men’s National Team) captured Gold at the FIRS 200 2 World Inline Hockey Championships, along with our Women’s National Team. Both teams will travel to the Czech Republic for 2003 to defend their titles.

In 2002 the GLI had two current and one graduate player that were active members of the Gold Medal Men’s team. This says volumes for the caliber of players that the GLI is producing and will continue to produce for the future National Team Program.

CIHA will organize a National 24U Team for the 2003 World Championships (June 28-July 6, 2003) and will take our veteran squad to the 2003 Pan Am Games (Aug.11-14, 2003). This is to begin to prepare our younger players for future World Championships and developing a larger pool of players for future National Team events.

Canada’s Pan Am Games Team Named 7/21/2003

Canadian Inline Hockey Association President/CEO, Dave Easter along with Head Coach, Richard Ropchan (Leamington, ON and current Executive Director of the OMHA) are pleased to announce the Team Roster for the 2003 Pan Am Games Aug.11-14. Canada will take a roster of experience and youth to this World Event to be hosted in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Team Canada Inline look forward to supporting all the Canadian Athletes that will be competing during the 2003 Pan Am Games and anticipate an experience of a life- time while living at the Athlete Village and being part of the “Team Canada” family.

The roster for the Pan Am Games is limited to only 10 players (2
goalies and 8 skates), which will prove to be a challenge for all
teams to deal with the short bench and extreme heat, anticipated
to be well above 30 –35 Celsius during the day.

Joining the management staff with coach Ropchan is Dave Bowen
(Team Leader, London, ON), Cary Grant (Athletic Therapist & Equipment,
Calgary, AB), Dr. Peter Mackinnon (Team Doctor, Chatham, ON)
and Greg Hetherington (Media, Chatham,ON). These volunteers hope to
help support and lead the team to Gold for the 2003 Pan Am Games.

Team Players include the following players:

Goalies:

Brett Leggat, Hamilton, ON
Scott Humphrey, Langlely, BC

Players:

Mark Woolf , Medicine Hat, AB

Canada Defeats Brasil in Opener 8/11/2003

Mexico at 6:00PM.

All eight skaters for Canada scored today.

Warum verpflichten wir eigentlich nicht den Hugo Belanger???
