New Jersey Devils Thread geschlossen

Jim Matheson reported the following this week:

The New Jersey Devils will probably try to move defenceman Oleg Tverdovsky during the June entry draft. Tverdovsky earns $3.6 million US but has been scratched for nearly half the Devils playoff games this spring.

Spector's Note: While the salary and healthy scratches may not make him seem valuable to other clubs, there will be general managers who'll see Tverdovsky as one of a long list of players who've chaffed under the Devils system over the years, and could use him to bolster their blueline. Don't be surprised if he gets moved over the summer.

Devils D Daneyko to announce future Friday

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) - New Jersey Devils defenseman Ken Daneyko, who has spent his entire 18-year career with one team, will announce his future Friday at Continental Airlines Arena.
Daneyko, 39, could announce his retirement at a 10 a.m. EDT news conference, something to which he hinted two weeks ago when he told the Newark Star-Ledger that he "may be leaning that way a little bit."
The move would be a mutual one between Daneyko and Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello, who is always trying to make his team better. Still tough, but a step slow, Daneyko played only one game in the Stanley Cup Finals.
No one has appeared in more games - regular season or playoffs - for the Devils. By appearing in 1,283 regular-season contests, he ranks fourth on the NHL's all-time list for players who have spent their entire career with one team.
Daneyko also has won three Stanley Cups with the Devils, most recently in June. He was benched for the first six games of the series against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, but returned in Game Seven.
The Windsor, Ontario native has 36 goals, 142 assists, 2,519 penalty minutes and a plus-80 rating during the regular season.
He was a minus-40 in his first five years.
Daneyko is the last link to the New Jersey teams of the early 1980s that were so wretched Wayne Gretzky dubbed it a "Mickey Mouse organization."
In 1998, Daneyko missed part of the season due to alcohol treatment.

Daneyko Retires

Devils lose one of their staples in Daneyko
Associated Press

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New Jersey Devils defenseman Ken Daneyko retired Friday, ending an 18-year NHL career that included three Stanley Cup titles in the last nine years.

The 39-year-old Daneyko had been considering retirement since the Devils defeated the Mighty Ducks in the finals last month.

"Dreams certainly do come true because I've lived one for the past 20 years,'' Daneyko said.

Daneyko's 1,283 games with the Devils ranks fourth in the NHL for games played with the same organization. Before this season, he had played in all 162 postseason games for New Jersey. He played in 13 of 24 this season.

Daneyko finishes his career with 36 goals and 142 assists. He had five goals and 17 assists in 175 career playoff games.

The 18th overall pick in the 1982 draft, Daneyko has been on New Jersey's roster for all or part of the season since 1983.

The Devils also won the Cup in 1995 and 2000, and lost to Colorado in seven games in the 2001 finals.
