Von unseren Deutschen Sturm, Hecht und Seidenberg ganz zu schweigen. still believe, to see the cup sometimes. Thanks Charlie Simmer for the memories. Same to you Jiri, you are the best. Looking forward, Play Offs 2003 here we come
Enforcer Craighead waiting in wings By BEN KUZMA The Vancouver Province
Journeyman John Craighead has a pinched nerve in his left shoulder and pinched lips regarding an expected Vancouver Canucks contract offer.
Rumours have abounded that the enforcer has already been told he'll be signed once his injury heals. Canucks general manager Brian Burke confirmed that Tuesday.
"It's our intention to discuss a contract with him when he's healthy and that should be in the next day or two," said Burke. "We think he's had an outstanding camp, not withstanding his injury.
"It would be a two-way deal with the big club and he'll have an opportunity to play with us. He'll have to clear waivers and I'd say he's been one of the main stories in camp. He's done a real nice job."
The chisled 6-foot-1, 200-pound Craighead has also done a nice job keeping his emotions under control.
"The most important thing for me is to get healthy and everything will fall in line after that," responded Craighead, who practised for the first time Monday after being injured Sept. 25 in a preseason tussle with Brad May of Phoenix.
Craighead, who turns 31 next month, has been beating long odds since arriving as a training-camp walk-on.
After playing 11 years in six pro leagues and having a five-game NHL cup of coffee with Toronto five years ago, there's a place in the organization for the Virginia-born brute who's willing to play in pain and not give up on a dream after moving to B.C.
The loss of enforcer Mike Brown to Anaheim on waivers last Friday also enhanced Craighead's value. Although the Canucks preach team toughness, there's a lack of it in the organization.
"Whether that works in my favour, we'll see when the time comes," added Craighead, who played in Germany the past four years.
Craighead fought in camp and fought in four preseason appearances. His foot speed is better than expected and nobody is questioning his heart.

Oct 25, 2002 Canucks sign walk-on Craighead
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -- The Vancouver Canucks signed training camp walk-on John Craighead to a two-year, two-way contract on Thursday.
Craighead, a 6-foot, 200-pound tough forward, spent the last four years playing in Germany and hasn't played in the NHL since a five-game stint with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1996-97.
"It was a dream come true to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs," said the 30-year-old Craighead, who was born in Virginia, but moved to the Vancouver area when he was 3 and grew up a Canucks fan. "Nothing against Toronto but it's not Vancouver."
Craighead had four fights and 22 penalty minutes in four preseason games with Vancouver and, provided he clears waivers, will start his Canucks career with Manitoba of the AHL.
For Craighead it's the end of a long path and a dream come true.
He started his professional career 11 years ago in something called the Sunshine League in Florida, playing for 12 teams in six leagues, three countries and two continents before joining the Canucks.
He's battled through the deaths of his sister, and to his best friend -- the best man at his wedding and his biggest fan who died this summer. He's played overseas while his wife and two kids waited on the other side of the world for his dream to come home. Now it has.
"My Mom cries every time I talk to her on the phone and my boys run around with little jerseys saying their dad is playing for the Canucks," Craighead said.
In other moves Thursday, Vancouver sent 21-year-old rookie Fedor Fedorov -- the younger brother of Detroit star Sergei Fedorov -- and defenseman Bryan Allen to Manitoba of the AHL.
Fedorov was demoted to make room for veteran center Trevor Linden, who returned to the lineup against Anaheim on Thursday night, just two weeks after spraining his knee in the first game of the season.
Allen will play with Manitoba on Saturday and Sunday before being recalled. Allen, the fourth overall draft pick in 1998, played the first four games and scored his first NHL goal in the season opener. He was a healthy scratch in the last four games.
Canucks Assign Craighead To Moose Manitoba Moose Press Release
Winnipeg, Manitoba - The Vancouver Canucks announced that they have assigned forward John Craighead to the Manitoba Moose after clearing through waivers. He agreed to terms with the Canucks on Oct. 24.
Craighead, 30, attended the Canucks training camp as a tryout and played in four pre-season games with Vancouver, recording 22 penalty minutes. Over the last four seasons, Craighead played professionally in Germany. Last season, he played 49 games with the Revier Lions, notching ten goals, 12 assists (10-12-22) and 226 penalty minutes. The rugged right winger has played five NHL regular season games, recording 10 penalty minutes with Toronto in the 1996-97 season.
The 6-foot-1, 200 pound, resident of Langley, B.C., was originally signed as a free agent by the Toronto Maple Leafs on July 22, 1996.
Craighead will meet up with the Moose on their road trip starting in Hartford.
