Art Jackson bricht vor Leafs-game tot zusammen Antworten
Art Jackson dies after collapsing at ceremony
Associated Press

TORONTO -- The nephew of former Toronto Maple Leafs player Harvey "Busher" Jackson collapsed during a pregame ceremony and died Saturday night. He was 78.

Art Jackson collapsed just as he was being introduced during the ceremony that honored the top 25 players in Maple Leafs history. Jackson was representing his deceased uncle.

The game between the Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres was delayed for 35 minutes after Jackson collapsed at the Toronto bench.

The Maple Leafs doctor pumped Jackson's heart for at least 10 minutes before Jackson was taken off a stretcher.

"It was an awful thing," Maple Leafs coach and general manager Pat Quinn said in announcing Jackson's death after the game.

Both teams returned to their dressing rooms as emergency medical attention was administered.

Maple Leafs physician Dr. Michael Clarfield tried CPR during and after the ceremony, but he was unable to revive Jackson. A crowd of 19,339 fans were in attendance.

"It was quite surreal," Clarfield said.

Both the Maple Leafs and the Sabres were shaken up.

"I've never seen anybody die before. It affects you," Toronto's Mikael Renberg said. "We saw the whole thing."

Toronto's Alyn McCauley said he couldn't get his head into the game.

"We didn't know if we really wanted to play the game," he said. "Our condolences certainly go out to the family. It was a tough thing to have happen for what was supposed to be a special night."

Harvey "Busher" Jackson, who died in 1966, was the only Maple Leafs player chosen to the NHL first team twice. The left wing played for Toronto from 1929-39.

O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

war wohl übelst... zum Glück keine TV-Kameras und die Leafs haben hinterher in Erinnerung an die St.Pats in Grün gespielt zu Ehren des Verstorbenen...
War aber schon vorher geplant, da sie den 75. Geburtstag ihrer Franchise feiern.

The Maple Leafs will celebrate the franchise's 75th anniversary tonight by wearing the Green, White and Brown of the Toronto St. Patricks. It will be the first time since 1927, when the St. Pats became the Maple Leafs, that the team has not worn Blue and White.
